Resort Review in Gwangju, Korea: Konjiam EW Village Deluxe, Hwadam Forest & Luge

While planning a fall trip to Hwadam Forest in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, we decided to book a one-night Konjiam Resort stay.

Our family has visited Konjiam Resort several times over the years.

The resort has a different feel in every season,
and honestly, we’ve enjoyed it every time!

On our last visit in summer,
we spent our time splashing around at Spa La Spa.
This time, with lovely fall weather,
we decided to try the luge with our child.

Here’s the short version:
I worried that our five-year-old might find it scary, but our little one absolutely loved it.
The luge at Konjiam Resort was a huge hit.

Here’s a look at our EW Village Deluxe room, luge prices and discounts, the resort’s dining options, and our dinner at Craft Hans.

Konjiam Resort Stay: A Family Getaway in Gwangju, South Korea

What I like about Konjiam Resort is that it’s more than somewhere to sleep—you can eat and enjoy all kinds of activities without leaving the property.

It’s especially convenient if you’re visiting Hwadam Forest, since you can combine your overnight stay and sightseeing into one easy itinerary.

Surrounded by mountains, the resort feels like a proper escape into nature. That’s one reason our family keeps coming back.

Last summer was all about swimming at Spa La Spa; this trip was all about the luge!

I love being able to plan a different trip around the season and whatever our child is into at the time. It’s definitely worth a visit.

Konjiam Resort EW Village Deluxe Room Review

This time, our family booked an EW Village Deluxe room at Konjiam Resort.

It had separate bedrooms and a living room, with a clean, simple mix of white and wood tones.

There was a microwave,
and the room had cooking facilities, too.

Naturally, strong-smelling foods such as meat and fish weren’t allowed to be cooked in the room.

The living room had two sofas and a table—a comfortable spot for the family to sit back and relax.

Mountain views outside the window helped the space feel open and airy.

A Twin-Bed Bedroom

One bedroom had two single beds side by side.
There was also a wall-mounted TV, a closet, and a vanity area.

And there was another bedroom, too.

Two Bedrooms + a Living Room
The room wasn’t fancy, but it was clean and had everything we needed.

Best of all, the bedrooms were separate from the living room.

When you’re traveling with a child who goes to sleep before the adults are ready to call it a night,
that means my husband and I can enjoy a little nightcap together.

After checking in,
we headed straight out to explore the ecological stream.
Take the elevator down,
and it connects directly to the stream area.

In summer, children catch fish here
and splash around in the water.
But it was chilly on the day we visited,
and even dipping a hand in felt cold!

After a quick stroll along the stream,
we headed to the luge our child had been so excited about.

The luge was the activity we were most looking forward to on this trip.

We bought two-ride tickets right from the start.
Looking back, we absolutely would have regretted buying just one ride.

A Chairlift That Goes Higher Than You’d Expect

The chairlift took us up the slope to the luge start, climbing much higher than I’d imagined.

The views on the way up were lovely, though I was a little surprised by just how high we went.

Time for Our First Luge Run!

I expected the ride down to be over quickly, but the course was much longer than I’d pictured.

With all those winding turns, it felt like we had plenty of time to enjoy the ride.

I didn’t time it, but it felt as though the descent took about 15 minutes.

That may not reflect the actual ride time—it just didn’t feel like an experience that was over in a flash.

Our Child Absolutely Loved It!

For reference, our child is five years old
and on the smaller, slighter side, at about 102 cm tall.

I was a little nervous because of that young age…
But I needn’t have worried. At all.

As for our little one?
The biggest takeaway was just how much fun our child had.
Even now that we’re home, the luge still comes up in conversation all the time.

One ride was with Dad,
and the other was with Mom.

Apparently, Dad was happy to pick up some speed!
Mom took a slightly more cautious approach,
so Dad’s ride was declared much more fun…

Our little one was shouting with excitement the whole way down with Dad.

Seeing that much joy made it even more fun for us, too.

After the first run, I knew we’d made the right call buying two rides.

Our child loved it, and a second run didn’t feel repetitive at all.

Personally, I’d recommend the two-ride ticket if you’re visiting with kids.

Of course, it depends on your child’s personality, but if they love active adventures like ours does, one ride might leave them wanting more.

Konjiam Resort Luge Prices and Discounts

We bought our two-ride tickets with a 27% family-package discount.

The on-site sign listed these prices for the two-ride family packages when we visited.

Family Packages: Discounted Prices
Two adults + one child riding with an adult: $41
Two adults + two children riding with adults: $51

There was also a separate discount for resort guests, but the family package worked out cheaper for us, so that’s what we chose!
If you’re visiting as a family, compare the available discounts before paying.

Dining at Konjiam Resort:

More Choices Than You Might Expect!

Beyond the main options—Mir Asia, La Grotta, bhc Chicken, and Frank Burger—

head to the second floor of the Ski House building
to find Gourmet Place, the resort’s food court!

One thing I really appreciated was the variety of restaurants within the resort.

We’d booked one night mainly to visit Hwadam Forest, but after looking around, I realized we could easily cover everything from meals to snacks without leaving.

Gourmet Place on the Second Floor of Ski House

The second floor of Ski House has a food court with several different restaurants.

There’s Korean, Japanese, and Western food, plus bunsik—casual Korean favorites—so everyone can choose what they’re craving.

Options included Hanchon Seolleongtang, known for Korean ox-bone soup; Bukchon Son Mandu, serving dumplings; Menmusha; Italia; Frank Burger; Gamtan Tteokbokki, serving spicy rice cakes; and Steff Houlberg hot dogs.

There was a Starbucks, too, which would be handy for a coffee after a meal.

Children’s menu options also made it look convenient for families.

And during our visit,
Oktoberfest was happening!
Takeout and delivery to guest rooms were available, too—worth keeping in mind.

There was also Forestreet, an outdoor barbecue dining area.

With nature as its backdrop, it looked like a lovely place to eat.

Dinner at Craft Hans

Pizza, Chicken, and a Casual Draft Beer

With so many restaurants at Konjiam Resort, choosing dinner took a little deliberation.

After checking out a few places, we settled on Craft Hans—the pizza and craft beer looked too good to pass up.

Craft Hans serves craft beer alongside pizza, pasta, chicken, and other dishes.

The menu had several pizzas and plenty of food that looked perfect for sharing over a beer.

Freshly Baked Pizza That Exceeded Expectations

The pizza had a thin crust and arrived fresh from the oven, with cheese that stretched beautifully with every slice.

It was especially good while hot, and the thin crust kept it from feeling too heavy.

The Craft Beer Was a Hit, Too

We ordered two craft beers.

One was a dark beer, and the other was a draft beer.

Personally, I thought the beer was really good.
It was a little pricey, though.
Still, a cold draft beer on vacation is one little pleasure I’m not ready to give up.

Chicken and Fries, Too!

The chicken we ordered came with fries on the side.

Golden-fried chicken and fries were just the thing to go with our beers.

Between the pizza, chicken, and cold beer, we had more than enough for dinner.

Best of all, we didn’t have to leave the resort to find a satisfying meal.

Konjiam Resort’s Convenience Store

Surprisingly Spacious!

One of the facilities that stood out to me was, unexpectedly, the convenience store.
I’d assumed a resort convenience store would be small, but this one was bigger than I expected.
It had plenty of food and a good selection of alcoholic drinks.

Honestly, you could put together a whole dinner from the convenience store alone.

There were lots of choices, from quick snacks and drinks to more substantial meal options.

The range of alcoholic drinks was especially handy if you wanted a quiet drink back in your room.
Convenience stores inside resorts
don’t always offer buy-one-get-one-free deals,
but this one did, so I picked up a few things for our child.

After the convenience store,
we made a quick stop at the arcade

before heading back to our room.

A Quiet Nightcap in Our Room

We’d already had dinner at Craft Hans, but we weren’t quite ready for the day to end.

So we headed back to the room for a relaxed nightcap.

The EW Village Deluxe layout was especially convenient for this, with the bedrooms separate from the living room.

With Hwadam Forest on the agenda the next morning, though, we didn’t stay up too late.

Next Stop: Hwadam Forest!

Visiting Hwadam Forest the following day was the main reason for booking this overnight trip.

We spent day one enjoying the luge and dining at Konjiam Resort, then rounded out the trip with Hwadam Forest on day two.

Below, I’ll share more about booking the Hwadam Forest monorail, our experience riding it, and the fall foliage.
